A bit of education, a lot of blather. Mostly an accumulation of my mental meandering...price of admission? Your time.

Money Pit II
Stay tuned for some delvings far from the educational realm. I've quite a bit to say about this, but mainly just wanted to put a "bookmark" on the thought...meanwhile, I have another presentation to prepare for...
I'm going to put this here so it doesn't get buried. I loved hearing your thoughts today and comparing them to what has occured in my room this year. I guess mostly I decided that I need to watch my conferences and make sure that the direction I send boys is developmentally appropriate. I so appreciate your forward thinking and your ability to say it in such a way that makes people really think about their thinking. You are not afraid of taking risks and admiting your own mistakes. Hearing Ralph Fletcher today was awesome! What a powerfully inspirational person for teachers to hear. Jen and I would love to sit down with you sometime and discuss the boy thing with you. I know I want to have some conversations about ethnicity too. I still have so much to learn.
I'm glad you weren't freaking out about the mapping part...trigger things can lose people and whole audiences...it's something I'm working on keeping tabs on.
I love listening to Ralph. Somehow his easy manner makes it seem so achieveable. I guess we need to remember the key things--paying attention to what the kids are "telling" us with or without words and if we truly think ahead, we'll get farther along more quickly. I kissed goodbye the notion of ever "getting there" in education because as soon as you feel you're close, something will change and that whole "cheese moving" thing happens--it's just such a dynamic process.
I've got a number of articles and books on the boy thing, so I'm sure we can "socialize" our collective knowledge to all end up being better equipped to handle the gents in our classrooms. :)
Hello women! I was truly amazed by Ralph.. both Ralph and your presentation really made me think about my own classroom as well as my son. I have alot of observing and reflecting to do this week.
Your presentation was great! As Sarah said, you make it real, honest, and you are hilarious!
Didn't know you tried this again. Like you, I have been too busy to add to mine also. Isn't it a great way to get your thoughts out there though. Let's not quit this, let's just do it when we can!
